There is something truly magical about a summer Christmas in Australia. While much of the world looks for snow, we look to our gardens for the vibrant blooms that herald the holiday season. This year, the Royal Australian Mint continues its beloved tradition with the release of the 2025 50c Coloured Uncirculated Coin – Festive Florals, the seventh installment in their annual Christmas program.
A Native Beauty in Art Nouveau
This year’s design is a stunning tribute to the Queensland Christmas orchid (Calanthe triplicata). Known for its radiant white flowers that bloom just in time for December, this native orchid has been reimagined as a festive bauble.
The reverse, designed by L. Ashe, features the orchid framed by intricate, Art Nouveau-inspired floral patterns. The splash of glorious colour brings the botanical design to life, making it a standout piece for any collector. On the obverse, you’ll find the official effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, sculpted by Daniel Thorne.
